Amethyst

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, colored by trace amounts of iron combined with natural irradiation deep in the earth — the same mineral family as clear quartz and citrine, and just as durable at about 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. Its name comes from the ancient Greek amethystos, meaning 'not intoxicated', from a belief that the stone guarded against drunkenness; it is also the birthstone for February, and most amethyst on the market today is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, and Zambia. In feng shui and crystal tradition, purple is the color of nobility and wisdom, and amethyst is traditionally believed to quiet a busy mind, support restful sleep, and invite clarity in study and decision-making. Our amethyst pieces range from the Amethyst Pixiu Money Bag Bracelet and the Amethyst Romance Energy Bracelet to the Purple Aura Amethyst Convertible Necklace Bracelet, many pairing the stone with jade or wealth symbols like the Pixiu. Because every stone is natural, depth of purple and banding vary from bead to bead. One care note worth knowing: amethyst can fade with long exposure to direct sunlight, so store it out of a sunny window. Want to know more?
