Om Mani Padme Hum is the best-known mantra in Tibetan Buddhism, found on prayer wheels, malas and bracelets around the world. Wearing it is a gentle daily reminder of compassion and protection – which is what makes an Om Mani Padme Hum bracelet so meaningful.
What does Om Mani Padme Hum mean?
Often translated as the jewel is in the lotus, the mantra is associated with Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. Rather than one literal sentence, each of its six syllables is said to purify a different aspect of the self:
- Om – generosity
- Ma – ethics
- Ni – patience
- Pad – diligence
- Me – concentration
- Hum – wisdom
Why wear it on a bracelet?
Wearing the six true words keeps the intention of compassion and protection close throughout the day. Many people use the beads as a tactile reminder to pause, breathe and reset – much like a portable prayer wheel.
Our designs carry the mantra in silver, cinnabar and engraved beads, such as the Om Mani Padme Hum Protection String Bracelet and the 925 Silver Om Mani Padme Hum Red String Bracelet.
How to wear and care for your mantra bracelet
There is no strict rule, but many wear the mantra on the left wrist to invite calm and protection inward. Treat the bracelet with respect: keep it clean, avoid harsh chemicals, and remove it before showering or sleeping.
